Art Show: CHROMATICISM

 —  —

First and Last, 346 Dupont Street, Toronto

CHROMATICISM is a play on both the musical term, which describes utilizing the chromatic scale to create colour and expressive dissonance within a composition, and also the vibrant chroma of the artist’s palette, as well as her exploration of the monochromatic palette and it’s subtleties, complexities, and texture. Erika Nielsen creates her work in her home music studio, transforming the space for painting by spreading a large canvas drop cloth, and creating her work on the floor, allowing her to move easily around all facets of the canvas. For this body of work, the artist explores using both an energetic and monochromatic palette of acrylic paint and heavy-body gloss gel medium, applied to canvas using various techniques and sizes of palette knife.
